The Lagos-based reality TV star, in a post shared on his social media page, recounted what he described as a traumatic encounter, claiming that he was harassed, handcuffed, and held hostage for eight hours.
Adekunle said the incident could have ended tragically but for what he called divine intervention. Though he did not disclose the reason behind the alleged arrest or provide details about the officers involved, his post has sparked widespread concern among fans and human rights advocates.
“What a night! I was kidnapped, harassed, and handcuffed by the Nigerian Police Force in the last eight hours. This story could have been a completely different one, and no one would have known. But glory be to God, I’m alive today,” Adekunle wrote.
The reality star, who rose to fame as one of the standout contestants on Big Brother Naija Level Up in 2022, did not state whether he planned to take legal action or report the incident formally.
Public Reaction and Police Silence
Adekunle’s post immediately drew reactions across social media platforms, with fans expressing shock and demanding an investigation into his claims. Many users tagged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on X (formerly Twitter), urging the authorities to respond.
As of Thursday morning, police authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegation. Calls to confirm or refute the reality star’s claims went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
The incident adds to growing concerns about alleged police misconduct and unlawful detention in Nigeria, an issue that continues to attract scrutiny since the 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality.
While Adekunle expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, he noted that the experience left him shaken, describing it as “one of the scariest nights” of his life.
Observers have since called on the police hierarchy to investigate the claim and ensure that officers adhere strictly to professional conduct and citizens’ rights under the law.
