Nollywood actress and filmmaker Chika Ike chose to mark her 40th birthday in a remarkable way — by empowering 40 less privileged women through her initiative tagged “Chika 40 Smiles.”
The actress described the event as one of the most fulfilling experiences of her life, saying it went beyond her expectations. The celebration, held with friends and beneficiaries, was filled with laughter, tears, prayers, and dancing.
Reflecting on the significance of the milestone, Ike said she wanted this year’s birthday to be different from previous lavish celebrations. According to her, the decision to focus on impact was inspired by her late mother and her own journey into motherhood.
“When I thought about celebrating my 40th birthday, I wanted something truly memorable and impactful,” she explained. “The theme was Chika40Smiles because I wanted to empower 40 women and make them smile. It was important for me to do this at this point in my life. I’m a mom now, in a different space and season, and I wanted to celebrate in a way that reflected that.”
She expressed gratitude for being able to carry out the project as envisioned, adding that the joy and emotions shared during the event made it her most meaningful birthday yet.
“We laughed, cried, prayed, danced, and celebrated together. It was inspired by my mum — by all that she gave and sacrificed for me. Now that I’m a mum myself, I can deeply relate,” she said with warmth.
Chika concluded her reflection with a heartfelt message to mothers everywhere:
“To all the mothers out there, you’re doing an amazing job. Keep shining, keep loving, and keep smiling. I love you.”
The Chika 40 Smiles initiative adds to the actress’s record of humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting women and promoting self-sufficiency.
