The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has appointed former international boxer and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Adura Olaleyin, as its new Technical Director.

Olaleyin, who represented Nigeria at several international tournaments before transitioning into coaching, brings a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and administrative experience to the role.

As head coach, he led Team Nigeria to a remarkable outing at the 2024 African Games, where the national boxing squad recorded one of its best performances in recent years. He also guided the country’s boxers at the Paris 2024 Olympics, earning widespread praise for his tactical acumen and athlete management.

Between 2021 and 2025, Olaleyin served as the South-West representative on the NBF board, a period that honed his understanding of the sport’s governance and strategic operations.

In a statement signed by Mathew Okugbe, the federation’s Director of Communications, the NBF said Olaleyin’s appointment underscores its renewed commitment to repositioning Nigerian boxing for global competitiveness.

“The Nigeria Boxing Federation trusts that Olaleyin’s wealth of experience and dedication to the advancement of Olympic-style boxing will significantly contribute to the sport’s development,” the statement read.

As Technical Director, Olaleyin will operate under the federation’s Technical Committee, which functions in collaboration with members of the elected board.

NBF President Wale Edun reaffirmed his administration’s drive to reform and professionalise Nigerian boxing through strategic policies, technical innovation, and institutional strengthening.

He called on stakeholders nationwide to support the federation’s vision, noting that collaboration, transparency, and accountability would be central to restoring Nigeria’s dominance on the global boxing stage.
