Speaking to reporters in Ibadan, festival convener Seun Adeniyi emphasized that the event is designed to remind Nigerians and visitors alike that enjoyment and relaxation have deep roots in Ibadan. “A lot of people may not know that Ibadan is the headquarters, the origin of Amala—the food everybody loves in Nigeria and around the world. Also, Fuji music started in Ibadan,” he said.
Adeniyi explained that the festival seeks to revive Ibadan’s historic festive spirit, attracting visitors from across Nigeria, West Africa, and the diaspora. “For people coming to Nigeria for Christmas or the end of the year, Ibadan will offer the original taste of Amala and the authentic experience of Fuji music,” he added.
The festival will also feature a fashion show celebrating Yoruba culture, which Adeniyi highlighted as a growing influence on global fashion. “Music from Nigeria, especially Yoruba music, is also shaping genres worldwide,” he noted, underscoring the festival’s role in promoting Nigerian cultural exports.
In addition to entertainment, organizers have assured attendees of their safety. Every ticket to the event will include insurance coverage, and comprehensive security arrangements will be in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
The Faaji December Festival represents a renewed effort to position Ibadan as a cultural hub during the festive season, offering a vibrant alternative for locals and visitors seeking a unique end-of-year celebration.
