Abuja is gearing up for a major cultural shift this New Year’s Day as the usually quiet holiday in Nigeria’s capital gets a vibrant new look. Popular comedian Koboko Master is teaming up with Transcorp Hilton Abuja to launch a signature event designed to make January 1st in the city as exciting as the countdown that precedes it.

The show, aptly titled “1st 2 LAFF,” is positioned as more than just a comedy concert — it’s a full-blown celebration that merges humour, music, and thanksgiving in one electrifying experience. Set for January 1, 2026, at the iconic Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, the event kicks off at 5:00 p.m., promising a night of laughter, rhythm, and sheer entertainment.

For years, New Year’s Day in Abuja has been a subdued affair, with most residents opting for church services or family gatherings. But this new initiative seeks to redefine the city’s festive culture, giving residents and visitors alike a reason to step out, unwind, and celebrate the year’s beginning in grand style.

The maiden edition of 1st 2 LAFF boasts a star-studded lineup of some of Nigeria’s most beloved comedians, including Kenny Blaq, MC Edo Pikin, Mr Patrick, and Dan the Humorous, among others. The laughter will be complemented by live music performances, a live band, and energetic DJ sets from DJ Romie, ensuring a night packed with nonstop entertainment.

Koboko Master, the show’s creator and headliner, described the concept as “a dream born out of the need to give Abuja residents a reason to smile and celebrate the new year memorably.” According to him, 1st 2 LAFF aims to become an annual tradition that blends comedy and culture in a way that reflects the city’s growing appetite for premium entertainment.

Organisers say the event is not just a concert but also a thanksgiving experience, a moment for people to start the year on a joyful note surrounded by good humour, music, and community.

With its carefully curated performances and top-tier venue, 1st 2 LAFF is shaping up to be the first major entertainment highlight of 2026 — and potentially, a new tradition that transforms how Abuja ushers in every new year.
