A fresh wave of reactions has trailed the apology issued by comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, following a physical confrontation with online personality VeryDarkMan aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight. The incident, recorded by fellow passengers on a trip from Asaba to Lagos, showed the two men exchanging blows before the situation was brought under control.

In a video shared on Instagram, Mr Jollof expressed deep regret over the fracas and distanced himself from any perception of violence. He explained that he had acted in self-defence but accepted responsibility for his conduct. The comedian extended his apology to the airline, the flight crew, passengers whose travel plans may have been disrupted, as well as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

He went on to offer personal apologies to his wife, children and employer, acknowledging the embarrassment the incident may have caused them. Emphasising that the behaviour was out of character, he vowed that such an occurrence would not repeat itself.

Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan, who also referenced the altercation in his own posts, claimed he had “dealt with” Mr Jollof and displayed bite marks he said were sustained during the fight. The exchange between the two personalities has stirred debate online, with many calling for restraint from public figures, especially in sensitive environments like commercial flights.

Aviation authorities have not yet released a statement on whether further action will be taken, but the apology has ignited wider conversations about passenger conduct and safety in Nigeria’s airspace.
