...Says Mass Abductions Show “Incompetence”
Social activist and comedian Debo Adebayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has sharply criticised President Bola Tinubu over the country’s escalating incidents of terrorism and school abductions.
In a post on his X handle on Friday, Adebayo questioned the administration’s handling of national security, arguing that the recurring kidnappings of schoolchildren contradict earlier assurances by the President.
“President Tinubu, you said you had all the answers to end terrorism! You said any President who could not protect the people is incompetent!” he wrote. “Any school child that has been abducted is a result of your incompetence. The blood of Nigerians being shed as an act of terrorism is on your head.”
Criticism Follows Fresh Abductions in Niger State
The activist’s comments were prompted by another school attack in Niger State, where terrorists abducted students and staff of St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area. Church authorities confirmed the incident, although the number of kidnapped persons was still being verified as the school continued compiling its records.
The Kotangora Catholic Diocese in Niger State also issued a statement acknowledging the abductions and calling for prayers and support for affected families.
Growing Public Furor Over Security Failures
The incident adds to a series of recent attacks targeting schools and rural communities, intensifying public concerns over the government’s capacity to curb armed groups across the country. Adebayo, known for using social media to comment on governance and human rights, is among the latest voices demanding stronger, more decisive action from the federal authorities.
