According to a statement released by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister, the ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the African Hall of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center in Abuja. It is expected to gather a broad coalition of stakeholders, including international and domestic airlines, aviation regulators, airport authorities, ground handling firms, private sector operators, development partners and industry specialists.
One of the main features of the centenary celebration is the formal recognition of 40 “Legends of Aviation” — individuals whose pioneering contributions across engineering, piloting, air traffic management, administration and industry leadership have helped define Nigeria’s aviation story. Documentaries, keynote presentations, goodwill messages and the unveiling of commemorative projects are also included in the programme.
Speaking ahead of the event, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo described the milestone as both a tribute and a forward-looking commitment. He noted that the accomplishments recorded over the past century stem from the dedication of early innovators and the support of partners across the world.
“The centenary is not only an opportunity to honour the past but also to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to building a more resilient, secure and globally competitive aviation sector,” Keyamo said.
The Ministry added that the commemoration will serve as a platform for reflection and renewed collaboration as the nation charts a course for its next century of aviation progress—one focused on safety, innovation, capacity expansion and global competitiveness.
