Nintendo Co., the renowned Japanese game developer behind the Switch consoles and iconic franchises like Super Mario, has opened its first directly operated store in southwestern Japan. The new location in Fukuoka Prefecture marks the company’s fourth flagship store, joining existing outlets in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, as Nintendo seeks to expand its fan base and strengthen revenue streams.

The Fukuoka store, situated inside the Amu Plaza Hakata shopping complex adjacent to the shinkansen bullet train station, spans roughly 1,000 square meters—the largest among Nintendo’s retail locations. Visitors can explore around 2,500 products, including game consoles, plush toys, sweets, and a wide range of merchandise featuring beloved characters. The store also offers Fukuoka-exclusive T-shirts and interactive gaming areas where fans can try out titles on large screens.

The grand opening drew early risers eager to secure numbered entry tickets. A 35-year-old visitor from nearby Nagasaki Prefecture arrived at 5:30 a.m., only to find 20 to 30 people already in line. “I bought a T-shirt and a picture book, and I hope to come back with my child next time,” he said.

Nintendo’s latest store underscores the company’s continued investment in immersive, fan-focused retail experiences as it celebrates decades of gaming success and strengthens its connection with consumers across Japan.
