The appointment, which takes effect in March 2026, forms part of the organisation’s broader effort to strengthen its governance, risk oversight, and operational resilience as it continues to expand across the African continent.
In her new role, Mokoena will oversee the conglomerate’s enterprise risk management framework, including supervision of insurance programmes and digital transformation initiatives across the group’s diverse portfolio of businesses. Her responsibilities will centre on strengthening risk governance structures, enhancing organisational resilience, and supporting strategic decision-making in line with the group’s long-term Vision 2030 growth agenda.
The move comes at a time when Dangote Group is broadening its operational footprint across multiple sectors and markets in Africa. As the company deepens investments across industries such as cement, energy, agriculture and manufacturing, stronger oversight of operational, financial and strategic risks has become increasingly important to support sustainable growth.
Professional background
Prior to joining Dangote Group, Mokoena served as Executive for Risk and Insurance at Barloworld Limited, where she was responsible for overseeing enterprise risk management structures and coordinating insurance programmes across several jurisdictions.
During her tenure at the company, she contributed to the development of governance frameworks aimed at strengthening risk management systems and improving business sustainability. Her role also extended to several governance and fiduciary responsibilities within the organisation.
She served as Principal Officer and Board Member of the Barloworld Medical Scheme and also held the position of Principal Officer and Management Committee Member of the ONE Barloworld Retirement Fund.
In these roles, Mokoena chaired several governance bodies, including the Investment Committee, Administration and Ex Gratia Committee, Disputes Committee, and the RCC Committee. She also participated in the organisation’s Audit and Risk Committee, further strengthening oversight and accountability structures.
Academic and governance credentials
Mokoena brings extensive academic and professional training in risk management, finance and governance.
She holds an Executive Doctorate in Business Administration with a specialisation in Predictive Risk Management from the Paris School of Business and a Master of Science degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Leicester.
Her executive education also includes the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, as well as an Advanced Insurance Practice qualification from the University of South Africa.
She earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Finance, Insurance and Risk Management from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Beyond her corporate career, Mokoena is the Founder and Director of KHAUTA Risk Advisory, a consultancy focused on enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, insurance and risk financing, AI-driven risk analytics and governance advisory.
Her governance experience also includes serving as a Non-Executive Director at Healthcare Funders, where she is a member of the Governance Committee. She previously held positions as an Independent Trustee of the Transport Sector Provident Fund and the Road Freight and Logistics Industry Provident Fund.
