According to multiple accounts from those present, the disruption occurred suddenly as the musician and his band were performing. Witnesses alleged that the attackers—said to include a known local figure identified as Michael Abbey, widely referred to as “Emir”—forced their way into the crowd and triggered a stampede as guests ran for safety.
In the confusion, members of Obesere’s team were also targeted. His manager was reportedly injured after being stabbed with a broken bottle while attempting to protect the artiste. Personal items belonging to Obesere, including his phone, wristwatch and gold chain, were said to have gone missing during the incident, along with a bag allegedly containing about ₦4 million in cash. These details have not yet been independently verified.
A witness, Bosede Akinyemi, described the scene to journalists, calling it “a disgraceful act,” and claiming that a “gang of local thugs attacked Obesere and his band while they were performing on the stage.”
As of the time of reporting, there had been no official statement from security agencies or the musician’s team regarding arrests or further developments. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to establish what transpired and identify those responsible.
