Set for release on November 21, Nigerian-born, U.S.-based artist Mac-Anthony Abirika—known professionally as Mactee—is preparing to unveil Dundee Dance, a single he says marks both a sonic shift and a celebration of perseverance. The track introduces an upbeat rhythm paired with a signature dance, blending his personal journey with a sound designed to inspire movement and renewal.

Mactee’s musical roots trace back to Lagos, where he grew up surrounded by classic records that fuelled his early fascination with melody and rhythm. As a teenager, he co-created a three-man band, helping define its direction before branching out as a solo artist. That decision opened doors to new record deals, international appearances and moments of growing visibility.

However, his ascent was not without obstacles. Contract issues and extended pauses in his career stalled his progress and tested his resolve. “It was a dark time,” he recalled. “I could see the light from a mile away, but instead of basking in it, everything around me went dim. I couldn’t picture myself working a 9-to-5. I wanted to sing, become a legend and build something that gives hope to people who need a hand.”

A major turning point arrived in 2020 with Manna, a soulful record that went viral and reignited interest in his work. He followed this with Body—his first nationally distributed music video—and the eight-track EP Pit to Palace, expanding his catalogue with a mix of introspection and ambition. His collaboration with Magnito on Golgotha added another notable entry to his growing repertoire.

His forthcoming single, Dundee Dance, leans into a lively, energetic style that contrasts with some of his earlier releases. Mactee describes it as a continuation of his commitment to persistence and reinvention: “I have learned that if you keep knocking, the door will open one day.”

Outside the studio, Mactee is co-founder of Mark and Briks LLC, a venture active in fashion, real estate and talent development. Through the company and his creative work, he says his long-term vision remains constant—building platforms that create opportunities for others.
