Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson surged on this week’s Spotify streaming chart following the release of his highly anticipated Netflix documentary chronicling Sean “Diddy” Combs’ career and criminal convictions.

Jackson has emerged as the biggest gainer on this week’s Spotify U.S. artists chart, rising 54 spots from No. 199 to No. 145 for the period of Dec. 5–11. On the global artists chart, he also jumped 26 spots from No. 136 to No. 110. Daily Spotify charts show even higher placements, with Jackson reaching No. 119 in the U.S. and No. 83 globally on Dec. 11.

His surge in streaming numbers follows the release of “Sean Combs: The Reckoning” on Netflix on Dec. 2. The docuseries, which has been a streaming hit, topped Netflix’s U.S. series charts and was the second-most viewed show globally, logging nearly 22 million minutes viewed in its first six days.

The documentary features previously unseen footage commissioned by Combs himself before his arrest in September 2024. It depicts conversations with his lawyer and behind-the-scenes moments during his criminal trial, which ended in convictions on two prostitution charges and acquittals on three more serious counts, resulting in a 50-month prison sentence. The series also includes interviews with jurors from Combs’ trial, providing insight into their perspectives on evidence involving domestic violence allegations.

Combs has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix, claiming the use of footage he commissioned is “fundamentally unfair, and illegal.” Netflix maintains that the footage was legally obtained and insists the documentary is not a hit piece.

Meanwhile, Combs himself does not appear on the Spotify charts, highlighting the impact the docuseries has had on Jackson’s streaming numbers in contrast.

Jackson’s rising chart positions demonstrate the powerful crossover effect that high-profile documentaries can have on music streaming, especially when tied to public figures and controversies.
