The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Provost of the college, Dr Austin Ortiv, who disclosed that the approval followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions last Thursday. Under the agreement, the college will run education-related degree programmes under the academic supervision of AAUA.
According to Ortiv, the collaboration positions the college to begin the training and graduation of professional educators who are not only grounded in academic pedagogy but are also equipped with practical entrepreneurial skills. He explained that the programmes have been structured to address both teaching competence and self-reliance in line with current national education and employment needs.
He noted that the approval covers a range of academic offerings, including degree programmes in education, certificate courses in entrepreneurship, and advanced certificate programmes in education. With AAUA overseeing core academic processes, students enrolled in the degree programmes will graduate with certificates issued by the university.
Ortiv further stated that AAUA would be responsible for students’ admissions, curriculum design, screening, examinations, as well as matriculation and convocation ceremonies. Beyond academic qualifications, students will also undergo hands-on entrepreneurial training in areas such as business development, technology and engineering applications, as well as various trades and crafts.
“The partnership ensures that our students benefit from the academic standards of one of Nigeria’s foremost universities, while also gaining practical skills that prepare them for life beyond the classroom,” he said.
Meanwhile, AAUA has continued to record notable academic achievements. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Olugbenga Ige, recently revealed that 32 students graduated with first-class honours out of a total of 5,799 undergraduates who completed their programmes in the 2025/2026 academic session.
Prof Ige added that the university would offer automatic employment as graduate assistants to the first-class graduates, in line with AAUA’s policy of retaining outstanding students. He explained that beneficiaries of the offer would be expected to take up the positions after completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, provided they were willing to build their careers within the institution.
The twin developments underscore AAUA’s expanding influence in higher education and its commitment to academic excellence, capacity building, and strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening teacher education across the country.
