According to the company, the first phase of the contract will concentrate on enhancing Spationav, France’s national maritime surveillance system. The upgrade will involve embedding AI tools capable of processing large volumes of satellite-derived data, with the goal of improving threat detection, situational awareness and real-time decision support for naval operations.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy within France’s defence establishment to deploy AI across multiple domains. Future projects under the contract are expected to expand into military intelligence, cybersecurity operations, and the management of secure telecommunications networks.
Defence planners aim to unify and analyse streams of data collected from satellites, radars, drones and other sensors—an increasingly critical priority as modern military operations depend on speed, precision and coordinated information flows. The integration of AMIAD-developed AI is expected to strengthen these capabilities while ensuring that sensitive technologies remain under national control.
The deal underscores the growing role of artificial intelligence in European defence modernisation and highlights Paris’ intent to maintain strategic autonomy in key digital and security infrastructures.
