Cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced on Wednesday that co-founder Yi He has been appointed as co-CEO, joining Richard Teng in a shared leadership structure aimed at strengthening global operations and compliance.

Yi He, a long-serving Binance executive, has been with the company for over eight years and currently serves as Chief Customer Service Officer, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her elevation to co-CEO reflects Binance’s strategy to scale operations while building “future-proof” infrastructure, the company said.

“Yi has been an integral part of the executive leadership team since the launch of Binance,” Teng said during his Binance Blockchain Week keynote speech.

Teng was named CEO in 2023 after founder Changpeng Zhao, widely known as CZ, pleaded guilty to violating U.S. money laundering laws, paid a $50 million fine, and served nearly four months in prison. Zhao, a Canadian citizen born in China, has not yet been confirmed to return to the exchange, following a pardon granted by U.S. President Donald Trump in October.

Yi He, who previously hosted a Chinese TV travel show, shares both a professional and personal history with Zhao, with whom she has children.

Teng, a former financial regulator, emphasized that Yi’s appointment signals a renewed focus on responsible expansion and compliance as Binance seeks to solidify its global presence in the evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
