Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has rewritten history with his ‘I Told Them’ tour, becoming the highest-grossing tour ever by an African artist. The tour raked in $30.5 million from 302,801 tickets sold across 22 shows in Europe and North America, according to data from tour tracking platform.

The singer also set a new milestone for a single concert by an African artist, grossing $6.147 million from 58,973 tickets sold at London Stadium on June 29, 2024.

Breaking down the numbers, the North American leg of the tour brought in $15.19 million from 152,378 tickets across 16 shows, while the European leg generated $15.27 million from 150,423 tickets sold in six performances.

“This achievement cements Burna Boy’s place at the top of Afrobeat and global music,” the monitoring platform noted, highlighting the tour’s historic impact.

While Burna Boy’s feat marks a significant milestone for African music on the global stage, the highest-grossing tour of all time remains American singer Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour, which amassed $2 billion over 149 shows spanning 21 months. Burna Boy’s record also surpasses the previous high set by Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

The success of ‘I Told Them’ reflects not only Burna Boy’s growing international appeal but also the increasing global recognition of Afrobeat as a dominant force in contemporary music.
