Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has set a new milestone on Twitch, becoming Africa’s most-followed streamer following a high-profile livestream on Wednesday featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido.
Carter Efe broke the previous record held by comedian and content creator Adesokan Emmanuel, popularly known as Shank Comics, achieving the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa with 83,000 viewers. He also became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform.
Verification by TVC News on Thursday shows that Efe now boasts over 406,000 followers on Twitch, up from approximately 322,000 followers just a day before the stream, gaining roughly 160,000 new followers in just four days after the event went viral.
The livestream attracted a host of Nigerian elites and celebrities, including nightlife mogul and musician Cubana Chief Priest, as well as star footballer Victor Osimhen. Osimhen’s presence added a sporting dimension to the event, delighting fans who tuned in for a rare crossover between Nigeria’s music and football scenes.
During the stream, Davido also called on Twitch CEO Dan Clancy to consider offering Carter Efe lucrative deals, highlighting the platform’s growing influence and dominance in Africa.
The event took an unexpected turn when content creator Enzo made a surprise appearance, challenging Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base—a moment that quickly went viral across social media, sparking widespread reactions.
