Wizkid’s Son Prioritizes Growth Over Live Performances Despite EP Success

Boluwatife Ogudu, better known by his stage name Champz and the 14-year-old son of Nigerian superstar Wizkid, is already making waves in the music industry. Following the release of his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, the young artist has received numerous invitations to perform live shows. However, his mother, Shola Ogudu, has confirmed that he will be focusing on his personal and artistic development rather than live performances for the time being.

In a post on X, Ogudu expressed her gratitude for the opportunities while explaining the decision: “We want to say a Big Thank you for the countless show invitations and for considering Champz. Due to his age, we’re prioritising development over live performances for now, and have had to decline show bookings. We truly appreciate the interest and understanding.”

Since its release in November, Champion’s Arrival has garnered significant acclaim, topping charts and drawing attention from music fans both in Nigeria and abroad. Champz himself marked the one-month anniversary of the EP with a heartfelt message, reflecting on its rapid success: “Charting across countries, crossing 1M Spotify listeners, pulling in millions of streams, and becoming a top album in under 5 hours; I’m honestly grateful for every moment of it and even more grateful for everyone riding with me. Humbled, motivated, and ready for whatever comes next. This is only the beginning. So help me God.”

Champz’s music has been praised for its distinctive style, seamlessly blending Afrobeats rhythms with UK grime influences. Fans and critics alike have highlighted his ability to create a sound that feels both contemporary and uniquely his own—an impressive feat for a young artist just stepping onto the global music stage.

While live shows are on hold, the young musician’s trajectory suggests that this is only the start of what promises to be a remarkable career. His team and family remain focused on nurturing his talent while keeping his growth and well-being at the forefront.
