Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about his collaboration with fellow Nigerian artist Omah Lay, revealing that their partnership stemmed from a surprising social media interaction.

The collaboration resulted in the hit track “With You”, one of the standout songs from Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive, which has already been nominated for the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

In a recent video that has gone viral, Davido recounted how he reached out to Omah Lay after seeing a tweet in which the Soso crooner admitted he had assumed Davido “hated” him. The misunderstanding arose after Davido played Omah Lay’s songs during a livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria and I was driving him to the club, and then Omah Lay’s song comes up, and he was like, ‘Who is this?’ I responded, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot,’” Davido said.

The next day, Omah Lay tweeted, expressing surprise and relief: “Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.” Davido then sent him a direct message clarifying, “Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.”

Their exchange led to further communication, and the two artists eventually collaborated on several songs. Omah Lay selected “With You” as the track they would release together, which has since received critical acclaim.

Davido’s candid explanation highlights how digital interactions and social media recognition can spark creative collaborations, even among artists who initially thought there was tension between them.
