Taking to X, Don Jazzy advised emerging label owners to intentionally treat their artists like superstars from the very beginning of their careers. According to him, respect is not something that should come after fame; it should be built into the relationship from day one, especially when the goal is to create a global star.
He explained that his own leadership style is rooted in empowerment rather than control. By allowing his artists to take centre stage most of the time, he creates an environment where creativity and confidence can thrive. Don Jazzy noted that he only steps in when absolutely necessary, preferring to let talent speak for itself.
The music executive also pointed out that while many new label bosses admire him and attempt to emulate his “Don” persona, they often misunderstand what truly matters. Instead of focusing on dominance or authority, he stressed that the real lesson lies in humility, respect, and trust in the artist’s abilities.
Emphasising the need for proper artist development, Don Jazzy warned against stifling talent through excessive control. He maintained that nurturing and respecting artists not only builds stronger working relationships but also increases the chances of producing enduring superstars in the competitive music industry.
