The warning comes in the wake of a widely circulated video involving popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, who was seen live-streaming while driving—a stunt that reportedly resulted in a road traffic crash.
In a statement on Monday, signed by FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed condemned the act as unlawful and dangerous, emphasizing that it could have had fatal consequences.
“This incident serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” he said.
Mohammed highlighted that activities such as live streaming, content creation, or any form of distraction while driving constitute a direct violation of established traffic regulations. He warned that these behaviors not only endanger the driver but also put other road users at risk, undermining national efforts to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities.
As a result, he directed the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC to initiate prosecution against the individual involved for reckless driving, use of a phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with existing traffic laws.
The Corps Marshal also called on professional bodies and networks within the entertainment industry to hold their members accountable. He urged actors’ guilds, influencer associations, and content creator communities to actively promote responsible conduct among their members.
“Celebrities and influencers wield significant influence, particularly among young Nigerians, and must be seen as ambassadors of safety, not symbols of recklessness,” he stressed.
Mohammed further warned that the FRSC would strictly enforce the law, regardless of an individual’s fame or social media following. “No social media content, online trend, or momentary clout is worth a human life,” he stated.
Reminding motorists that public roads are shared spaces, not stages, studios, or streaming platforms, he urged Nigerians to report dangerous driving behaviors and support efforts to create safer highways.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, emphasizing that achieving safer roads requires collective responsibility, discipline, and respect for traffic laws by all road users.
