Funke Akindele continues to cement her status as Nollywood royalty with her latest cinematic release, Behind The Scenes, which has taken the Nigerian box office by storm. In a remarkable feat, the film crossed the ₦200 million mark in its opening weekend alone, setting a new benchmark for 2025.

According to distributor FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes has shattered five separate opening-weekend records, making it the first Nollywood production this year to achieve such an extraordinary milestone. The distributor shared a statement celebrating the film’s success:

"We call her the Queen of Box Office for a reason! Thank you, Nigeria, for showing up, filling cinemas, and spreading the word. Behind The Scenes crossed ₦200M in just one weekend, broke five opening-weekend records, and became the biggest opening of 2025! It’s your love that made this possible."

The excitement surrounding the film began even before its nationwide release. Advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 generated significant buzz, with audiences praising the film’s engaging storyline and stellar performances. The nationwide release on December 12 saw cinemas across the country packed, a testament to Akindele’s enduring appeal.

Behind The Scenes features an ensemble cast of some of Nollywood’s brightest stars, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana. Their performances, combined with Akindele’s proven track record as both actress and producer, have contributed to the film’s unprecedented reception.

This record-breaking achievement builds on Akindele’s already impressive legacy. Her previous film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, remains Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing even A Tribe Called Judah, which had opened with ₦113 million. Everybody Loves Jenifa went on to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever, earning over ₦1.8 billion domestically and significant revenue from international markets.

With Behind The Scenes now setting new standards, Funke Akindele continues to demonstrate why she is rightly regarded as the queen of Nollywood box office hits, proving her unmatched ability to captivate audiences across the nation.
