Ogala was taken into custody on Saturday and released on Monday, a development that sparked widespread online concern over her safety. The actress confirmed her release in a post shared on her Instagram page, thanking human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, as well as media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, for their intervention.
The arrest gained public attention during a livestream in which Ogala was speaking with an online interviewer. During the session, she revealed that police officers had arrived at her residence and questioned how they gained access to her home. Viewers watching the livestream in real time expressed alarm as the conversation unfolded, particularly when the interviewer asked whether the officers had presented a warrant and urged Ogala to keep her phone connected.
Social media quickly reacted, with many Nigerians and public figures raising concerns about the actress’s welfare. Martins Otse later stated that he had spoken with Ogala and received materials from her related to the dispute. In a video message, he warned that her safety should be guaranteed, adding that evidence she had sent him might be released if she was not returned home.
The controversy traces back to allegations Ogala made earlier in the week against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Ministry. She accused the cleric of reneging on a promise of marriage and proceeding to wed another woman, identified as Pearl, on December 16 in Lagos. Ogala claimed the relationship with Okafor had lasted for years and left her emotionally distressed, sharing several videos on social media—including posts that were later deleted—asserting that she possessed private materials supporting her claims.
Comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate Dee One also confirmed Ogala’s arrest on social media, noting that the actress would now need to address her claims through legal channels.
Following her release, Ogala expressed gratitude for the support she received, writing on Instagram, “Thank you, Sowore. Thanks so much to my ratel king.”
As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the circumstances of her arrest or release.
