Access to digital entertainment in Nigeria just became more convenient as Showmax strengthens its local payment infrastructure. The streaming platform has introduced new subscription payment options through a partnership with Baxi by Onafriq, a move designed to simplify how customers pay for and manage their Showmax plans.

Beginning Monday, 22 December 2025, existing Showmax subscribers can now complete their subscriptions entirely within the Baxi by Onafriq app. Through the platform, users can select and pay for any available Showmax plan, including Showmax Entertainment Mobile, Showmax Entertainment (All Devices), Showmax Premier League Mobile, bundled entertainment and Premier League options, and other combinations tailored to different viewing needs. This integration removes the need to switch between multiple platforms, offering a faster and more streamlined payment experience.

In addition to in-app payments, customers with verified mobile numbers can also fund their Showmax subscriptions by topping up through the Baxi by Onafriq app or via Baxi POS agent devices. Once funds are loaded into a Showmax wallet, subscribers can use the balance to activate or renew their chosen plan, providing greater flexibility for users who rely on agent networks or prefer cash-to-digital payment options.

The process has also been simplified for new subscribers. After creating a Showmax account on a mobile device, users receive a one-time password (OTP) via SMS or WhatsApp to verify their mobile number. Once verified, they can immediately return to the Baxi platform, top up their account, and activate a Showmax subscription without delays.

Commenting on the development, Tope Oshunkeye, Executive Head of Marketing, West Africa at MultiChoice, noted that the new payment options are part of a broader effort to remove barriers to streaming. He explained that working with Baxi by Onafriq enables Showmax customers to pay quickly and securely through a trusted financial service provider, reinforcing the company’s commitment to delivering accessible, world-class entertainment.

Mxolisi Msutwana, Managing Director for Anglophone West Africa at Onafriq, described the partnership as a step toward seamless entertainment access. According to him, automating subscription renewals not only enhances customer convenience but also supports the wider adoption of digital payments across Nigeria.

As demand for digital services continues to grow, Showmax is positioning itself closer to its audience by integrating with platforms they already use daily. The collaboration with Baxi by Onafriq, a widely used agent and digital payment network, reflects a strategy focused on affordability, ease of access, and local relevance.

The timing of the launch also aligns with Showmax’s festive season offerings. As part of its “Let It Snow” campaign this December, the platform is rolling out a rich content lineup that includes Showmax Original reality series The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls’ Trip: Africa, a new season of the drama Bel-Air (Season 4), blockbuster films such as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and the documentary Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, which traces the Grammy-winning artist’s journey from Lagos to London. Subscribers can also enjoy live Premier League football alongside a wide range of movies and series.

With enhanced payment flexibility and a strong festive content slate, Showmax is reinforcing its commitment to making premium entertainment easier to access for viewers across Nigeria.
