Verve International has partnered with Providus Bank to introduce the ProvidusVerve Travel Card, a naira-denominated travel card aimed at providing inbound travellers with a seamless, secure, and convenient payment experience during their stay in Nigeria.

A Solution for the Festive Travel Surge

The card is designed to support the influx of tourists, expatriates, business visitors, conference delegates, and returning diaspora during the festive “Detty December” season. It enables easy payments across transportation, hotels, dining, shopping, entertainment, and other everyday essentials.

Beyond local usage, the ProvidusVerve Travel Card also works on select global merchant platforms that accept Verve, such as Netflix and Google Play, allowing travellers uninterrupted access to familiar digital services.

Eliminating Cash Hassles

One of the key advantages of the card is that it removes the need for sourcing naira or converting foreign currency upon arrival. It allows instant, secure transactions, reduces dependence on cash, and aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy.

The card also addresses risks associated with carrying cash, such as theft, loss, or fraud, offering travellers a safe, regulation-compliant option for both online and in-person payments.

Paul Ohakim, Vice President of Issuing and Acquiring Management for Africa at Verve International, highlighted the convenience of the product:

“ProvidusVerve Travel Card is a timely solution for inbound travellers seeking reliability, security, and simplicity while navigating Nigeria. Together with Providus Bank, we have created a product that eliminates the friction associated with accessing local payments.”

Ademola Adeniran, Divisional Head of Product Management and Solution Delivery at Interswitch, emphasized the card’s user-focused design:

“This partnership reflects Verve’s commitment to designing products that respond to real user needs. The card supports everyday experiences — from booking rides and hotels to shopping, streaming, and dining. It provides inbound travellers with a secure, compliant, digital-first way to experience Nigeria without financial barriers.”

Boosting Tourism and the Creative Economy

As Nigeria prepares for its busiest holiday travel season, the ProvidusVerve Travel Card represents a significant step in enhancing the visitor experience. By enabling smooth payments and reducing friction for travellers, the card also supports the growth of Nigeria’s tourism and creative economy, positioning the country as a more accessible and attractive destination for international visitors.
