Reflecting on the tournament, Sevilla forward Akor Adams described the Super Eagles as the standout team of the competition, despite narrowly missing out on the title. Nigeria finished with the bronze medal after an impressive run that saw the team win six of their seven matches at the tournament.
The only blemish on an otherwise strong campaign came against host nation Morocco, where the Super Eagles were edged out 4–2 on penalties after regulation time failed to separate both sides. Prior to that setback, Eric Chelle’s men recorded convincing wins over Tanzania, Uganda, Tunisia, Mozambique, Algeria and, finally, Egypt.
Adams praised the resilience and togetherness within the squad, noting that the team arrived at the tournament with eyes firmly set on the ultimate prize.
According to the forward, while the gold medal proved elusive, the players leave the competition proud of their achievements and strengthened by the bond built over the course of the tournament. He also reserved special praise for head coach Eric Chelle, crediting the Malian tactician for fostering unity, discipline and personal growth within the group during the three-week campaign.
The Super Eagles’ AFCON journey, marked by consistency, teamwork and belief, has reinforced optimism around the team’s direction and leadership as attention now turns to future challenges.
