Cynthia Shalom Says Nigerian Audiences Want More Than Entertainment — They Want Real, Relatable Content
Content creator and movie producer Cynthia Shalom has highlighted a growing demand among Nigerian audiences for content that goes beyond entertainment and trends. She said viewers now crave stories that are honest, relatable, and meaningful, rather than just polished perfection.
In an interview with Potpourri, Shalom shared her thoughts on what creators should prioritize to stay relevant and impactful.
“I believe Nigerian audiences need more honest and meaningful content—content that is real, not just perfection,” she said. “We already have entertainment and trends, but people are craving stories they can relate to: about love, struggles, identity, growth, and everyday experiences. Content that makes you laugh and feel seen. Creators who focus on authenticity and value will always stand out.”
Authenticity Over Trends
Shalom emphasized that while trends may bring quick attention, they are temporary. She said her personal brand and values are more important than chasing viral moments.
“Trends are temporary—they come and go—but my values and personal brand are long-term. So, I really don’t feel the need to jump on every trend. I choose what aligns with my message and my voice. Consistency and honesty matter more to me than quick numbers. When you stay true to yourself, you attract an audience that genuinely connects with your content, and that connection lasts beyond algorithms.”
Advice to Emerging Creators
Shalom urged up-and-coming creators to focus on purpose rather than pressure.
“Focus on purpose, not pressure. You don’t need to shock people to be relevant. Be clear about what you stand for, create with intention, and stay consistent. True storytelling and originality will always outweigh controversy.”
Her message comes at a time when many Nigerian creators are redefining success, shifting from viral fame to building meaningful, long-lasting relationships with audiences through genuine storytelling.
