A close relative of popular actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has stated that his estranged wife, Omotayo Sanusi (Iyan Aladuke), was aware of the circumstances that led to her eviction from a Lagos property.
The eviction recently sparked widespread reactions on social media, with several users accusing Adebayo of abandoning his former partner. But Mrs. Taiwo Abdulmalik, a family member, insists the situation was a bank-driven foreclosure and not a deliberate act by the actor.
Bank Foreclosure Cited as Cause of Eviction
Abdulmalik explained that the property was purchased by Adebayo using a bank loan, and the bank initiated recovery proceedings after repayment issues emerged. She claimed Sanusi was aware of the loan arrangement and had been informed months earlier about the impending foreclosure.
“She knew Femi bought those properties with a loan and that the bank was coming for recovery. Those properties belong to him alone, and he is still paying heavy principal with interest,” Abdulmalik said.
Relocation Arranged by Adebayo, Says Family Member
According to Abdulmalik, once the bank began the foreclosure process, Adebayo ensured Sanusi, her family members, and her staff were relocated to a short-let apartment, which he reportedly paid for in full.
“Immediately the bank moved in, he made sure she, her family members living with her and her staff were moved to a short-let apartment, and he paid for everything.”
She also said the actor encouraged his estranged wife to find another place to rent, promising to cover the cost.
“He told her to go and look for a house to rent and promised that he would pay, no matter how expensive it was.”
Land Gifted to Sanusi, Later Sold—Family Member Alleges
Abdulmalik further revealed that in 2022, Adebayo purchased land beside Sanusi’s shop on Muritala Mohammed Way and registered it in her name as a backup investment. She claimed he was shocked when Sanusi reportedly sold the land shortly after the foreclosure and spent the proceeds.
“He believed that land would serve as her backup. It was shocking to him when, shortly after the bank foreclosure, she informed him that she had sold the land and spent the money.”
Adebayo Still Supporting Son, Family Member Insists
Addressing claims of neglect, Abdulmalik insisted that Adebayo continues to provide monthly upkeep for their son and remains actively involved in his life. She also claimed he spent nearly $50,000 last year for their son’s medical treatment in India.
“He has never stopped taking care of his son. He loves his children dearly and is very involved in their lives,” she said.
Family Member Appeals for Restraint
Abdulmalik appealed to the public to avoid rushing to judgment, describing the online narrative as incomplete.
“No one prays for a broken marriage. It’s unfortunate, but the story being told about him is not the complete truth.”
Sanusi Declines Comment
When contacted, Sanusi declined to respond to the allegations, calling the matter personal.
“It’s a family matter. I have never granted an interview and I don’t think I want to start now. It’s really personal to me… Different information has been spreading online, and people are free to say whatever they like.”
