The bank recently donated essential firefighting and preventive equipment—including fire hoses and gasoline-powered water pumps—to the Ikoyi Fire Service Station. The initiative is aimed at improving rapid response capacity and reducing the impact of fire incidents in one of Lagos’ busiest districts.
The intervention was carried out under the Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP), an employee-driven initiative that allows staff members to identify pressing community needs, raise funds internally, and receive matching financial support from the bank to implement chosen projects. Executed by the bank’s True Serve team, the donation reflects a blend of staff volunteerism and institutional backing.
Speaking on the initiative, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division at Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the gesture underscores the bank’s long-standing commitment to public safety and environmental protection. He noted that strengthening emergency response infrastructure remains a key aspect of the bank’s community engagement strategy.
According to him, Fidelity Bank views community safety as a shared responsibility that requires proactive investment rather than reactive measures. He added that by equipping first responders with modern and functional tools, the bank is contributing to safer living and working environments while also supporting sustainable preventive practices.
Dr. Nwagboh further emphasized that prevention remains more effective and less costly than emergency response, stressing that the bank’s broader objective is to empower communities to live meaningful and secure lives through timely and impactful interventions.
The donation received commendation from the Lagos State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Controller of Fire (CF) Funke Adebayo, who described the support as timely, particularly given prevailing dry weather conditions that increase fire risks. She urged residents to remain vigilant during the festive period and warned against unsafe practices that could trigger avoidable fire outbreaks.
CF Adebayo also highlighted ongoing sensitization campaigns by the Fire Service, noting that teams are engaging corporate organizations and communities to promote fire safety awareness, discourage the misuse of fireworks, and reinforce responsible handling of fire-related activities.
In a similar vein, the Area Commander of the Onikan Fire Station, Chief Superintendent of Fire (CSF) Oswere Michael, expressed appreciation for the bank’s contribution, describing it as a boost to operational effectiveness. He called on households, business owners, and community members to make fire prevention a daily priority both at home and in the workplace.
The donation further reinforces Fidelity Bank Plc’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions. The bank serves over 9.1 million customers through its digital platforms, 255 business offices nationwide, and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.
Fidelity Bank has also earned numerous local and international recognitions, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation and MSME Banking Award by the BusinessDay BAFI Awards, the Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application award by Global Business Outlook, and the Most Innovative Investment Banking Service Provider award by Global Brands Magazine. Additional honors include Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria by the Euromoney Awards for Excellence and Export Financing Bank of the Year by the BusinessDay BAFI Awards.
