The decision was made during a two-day Council–Management Strategic Retreat held in Lagos, where the university’s Governing Council and management aligned on long-term goals aimed at positioning FUOYE among the world’s leading universities by 2050.
Strategic Retreat Highlights Long-Term Vision
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede, said the retreat, themed “FUOYE Beyond Today: Strategic Alignment, Governance, Partnerships and Financial Sustainability for the Next 25 Years (2025–2050)”, ended with a commitment by both bodies to work collaboratively toward the institution’s long-term vision.
Ogunmodede stated that the council and management resolved that by 2050, FUOYE would be “digitally empowered, financially sustainable, ethically grounded and socially responsive.”
Revenue Diversification and Financial Resilience
To strengthen financial sustainability, FUOYE plans to diversify its revenue sources through endowments, alumni contributions, public-private partnerships, grants and enterprise-based income streams, while ensuring that education remains affordable and accessible.
Governance, Safety and Institutional Resilience
The university also pledged to reinforce governance systems to promote transparency, accountability, ethical leadership and performance-based management. Risk management and campus safety will be integrated into strategic planning to safeguard the institution’s stability and reputation.
Leadership Transition and Continuity
The management praised outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Fasina for his leadership over the past five years, citing significant progress in academic development, research visibility, infrastructure expansion and institutional strengthening.
The university also congratulated Prof. Joshua Ogunwole on his appointment as the new Vice-Chancellor, describing the process as seamless, transparent and credible—a model of good governance.
Fasina is expected to leave office next month upon the completion of his term. The statement noted that both outgoing and incoming vice-chancellors were actively involved in developing FUOYE’s 25-year strategic plan, ensuring continuity and effective implementation.
Roadmap for the Future
FUOYE said the 25-year strategic plan is designed to provide a realistic and phased roadmap for the university’s future development, laying the foundation for sustained growth and global competitiveness.
