...Reveals Intense Physical Transformation

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jide Awobona has revealed the demanding preparation behind his decision to play a female character in his latest film, Rise With Me. The actor spoke candidly about the challenges during an interview with Potpourri, explaining the motivation and rigorous transformation that went into the role.

Awobona stated that he consistently aims to push boundaries in every project he produces.
“To start with, for every movie I produce, I always aim to do something I have not done before,” he said. “Aside from having a fantastic story, I love to include a wow factor in every project. There has to be something memorable to hold on to. There has to be a strong message. Beyond the message, the movie must carry weight, boldness, and audacity—something daring.”

He noted that his commitment to innovation has been evident throughout his career, citing past projects like Inspector Jero and Amma as examples.

A Transformation Beyond Acting

Awobona revealed that the role required intense physical preparation. He stopped going to the gym three months before filming to lose weight and make his body more flexible, describing his body as “a canvas we could paint on.”

He also underwent a dramatic physical transformation, shaving off all body hair except for the hair on his head. “Any part of my body that had hair that made me look like a man, I had to remove,” he explained.

A Film with a Strong Social Message

Awobona described Rise With Me as more than entertainment—calling it an advocacy film with a powerful message.

He said the film promotes the idea that women should support one another rather than compete or pull each other down. It also aims to encourage women facing fertility challenges to explore available options.

The actor added that the film sheds light on the hidden struggles of celebrities, emphasizing that many public figures conceal their pain to maintain a façade of perfection.

“This film is ultimately advocacy for women, highlighting resilience, support, and the challenges women face in society,” he said.

As the film gears up for release, Awobona’s bold role and transformation are already sparking conversation and anticipation in Nollywood.
