Kogi State Polytechnic says it is strengthening its commitment to a student-focused academic environment, backed by improved infrastructure, technology-driven learning systems and strict adherence to discipline and academic integrity.

The assurance was given during the institution’s 33rd matriculation ceremony held on Thursday at its main campus in Lokoja, where newly admitted students were formally welcomed into the polytechnic community.

Speaking at the event, the Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo, said the institution is prioritising quality learning through modern laboratories, ICT-based examination systems, a functional library, secure hostel accommodation and well-equipped entrepreneurial training centres designed to prepare students for self-reliance after graduation.

According to him, the polytechnic remains resolute in creating an environment that supports academic excellence while promoting innovation and practical skills development.

He further stressed that discipline, transparency and zero tolerance for social vices remain core values of the institution, noting that peaceful coexistence, responsible leadership and mutual respect are actively encouraged among staff and students.

“Our emphasis on security, moral discipline and academic integrity is non-negotiable and central to our institutional philosophy,” the rector said.

Professor Ogbo also highlighted the institution’s growing national appeal, attributing it to sustained academic stability and improved governance. He revealed that student enrolment now cuts across almost the entire country.

He explained that while students from 26 states were matriculated during the 2023/2024 academic session, the 2024/2025 intake expanded to include students from 32 states, representing about 89 per cent of the federation.

“In the current session, the number of states represented in our enrolment has further increased to thirty-three, accounting for about 91.66 per cent of the states in the federation,” he added.

The rector described the development as a major milestone, saying it reinforces Kogi State Polytechnic’s position as a truly national institution.

“This remarkable expansion underscores the Polytechnic’s status as a melting pot of cultures and ideas, and it further strengthens Kogi State’s identity as a confluence of opportunities,” he said.

He urged the newly matriculated students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the institution, remain focused on their studies and uphold the values that define the polytechnic community.
