The Lagos State Government has kicked off the Year 2026 e-registration and payment exercise for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), covering public and private junior secondary schools across the state.
The online registration will run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026, and will be coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB). The initiative is designed to modernise the examination process by removing physical contact between school administrators and the board, while strengthening transparency, efficiency and accountability.
The announcement was contained in a statement released by the government and posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the exercise is part of the state’s ongoing effort to digitise public services and enhance operational effectiveness.
Schools Required to Use New School Codes
Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, confirmed that schools must use newly issued School Codes to complete the registration process.
He explained that public junior secondary schools are required to download the Offline Data Capturing Application via the board’s official portal, while private schools and other institutions must complete registration and payment online.
Payment Channels and Fee Structure
Approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission, and continuing education centres (CECs) will access the portal through pay.examsboard.com.ng to generate login credentials and complete payment.
The fee structure is as follows:
- Approved private junior secondary schools and public continuing education centres: ₦10,000 per candidate
- Schools with special permission and private CECs: ₦15,000 per candidate
Special Needs Candidates Must Be Reported Early
Orunsolu urged schools presenting candidates with special needs—including those with visual impairment or albinism—to notify the board in writing in advance. This will enable the board to make necessary arrangements before the examination begins.
Late Registration May Attract Penalties
The registrar warned that schools failing to register within the specified period may face penalties. Additional information, where required, will be communicated through zonal officers.
The move signals Lagos State’s continued shift towards technology-driven governance, aiming to make examination administration more secure and accessible while reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks.
