Rapper and singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has raised serious concerns about the growing influence of cultism within the Nigerian music industry.

In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the singer lamented that only a handful of artists in the industry have not joined cult groups, claiming that the number of non-affiliated musicians is “less than five.”

Marley criticised colleagues who join cults for power and protection, questioning the logic behind the move. He noted that even those who allegedly encourage others to join cults still rely on police escorts for their personal security.

He wrote:

“We no reach 5 weh never join cult for this [music] industry. Person weh put u for cult self dey carry police escort up and down.”

The artist’s comments have reignited the ongoing debate about safety, influence and the role of secret societies in the entertainment industry.

Naira Marley has also previously denied claims that he is a cultist, revealing that he was once threatened by cult members after refusing to join their ranks.
