Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo has opened up about her marriage, revealing that she was married at the age of 19 through a union arranged by her parents.

In a heartfelt post shared via a verified X account, Igbo History and Fact, the actress explained that her marriage was not her choice initially, and she felt fearful of loving a man she did not select herself.

“Marriage found me at just 19. It wasn’t my choice, my parents arranged it. At first, I was scared. I didn’t know how to love a man I didn’t choose,” she recalled.

However, Ozokwo said that with time, love developed between them, and they stayed together for 23 years. She revealed that her husband battled illness for 15 years before passing away in 2000.

The actress said they had three biological children and that she later adopted five more, though one of the adopted children later died, leaving her with seven children.

“But as time passed, love grew. We spent 23 years together. He was sick for 15 of those years, and in 2000, he passed away.

“We had three beautiful children, and I adopted five more. One of them died, so I now have seven,” she said.

Ozokwo also disclosed that she never remarried after her husband’s death, choosing instead to focus on raising her children.

Reflecting on marriage in modern times, she expressed concern that many people spend too much time trying to perfect themselves, yet marriages still end in failure. She contrasted this with her own generation, where arranged marriages were treated with commitment and endurance.

She added that she raised her children with strong values, encouraging respect and responsibility, which she believes helped her maintain a stable home despite the challenges.

“I have told my children never to think of divorce. I raised my daughters to be respectful and my sons to be responsible. That is how I built a strong home through hardship, love, respect, and sacrifice,” she concluded.
