The incident allegedly occurred on January 1, 2026, during a visit by Ashabi Simple to Portable's bar in Ogun State. What began as a New Year's interaction escalated into a heated confrontation, captured in a viral video circulating online.
In the footage, Ashabi Simple is seen holding onto Portable's clothing while expressing frustration over being referred to solely as his "baby mama." She reportedly insisted on being recognized as a wife, stating, “I’m also your wife; you have to stop calling me your baby mama.”
Portable responded by pushing her away and clarifying his family structure, saying, “I only have one wife, the rest of you are just baby mamas,” referring to his primary partner, Omobewaji Ewatomi (Bewaji), who is currently pregnant.
The exchange intensified, with Ashabi Simple allegedly replying emotionally, “Then you will have to kill me, baby.”
Following the altercation, Ashabi Simple and her siblings filed a police report, accusing Portable of assault, abuse, seizing their phones, and threatening them with an axe.
In a subsequent Instagram video, Ashabi Simple detailed her side of the story: “I celebrated the new year in a happy mood with my family. You are the one that called me that you’re in a bad mood, and I told you that I went to my dad’s house for the new year. And you asked me to bring new year food for you and I said ok.
“I called you when I got to your bar, and you asked me to meet you outside. When I got there, we had a minor disagreement and you slapped me, beat me up, seized our phones and threatened my siblings and I with axe,” she alleged.
She further claimed that when police officers later visited Portable's residence to effect an arrest, they encountered only his pregnant wife, Bewaji, as the singer had already left the premises.
This latest episode adds to a pattern of public disputes in Portable's personal life. The singer, known for his controversial persona and hits like "Zazu Zeh," is a father to multiple children with different women, including Ashabi Simple, with whom he shares two children. He has consistently maintained that Bewaji is his only official wife.
Online reactions have been divided. Many social media users have criticized Ashabi Simple for persisting in the relationship despite ongoing tensions, with some questioning her self-esteem and others accusing her of seeking attention. Conversely, supporters have condemned any form of physical altercation and urged accountability.
As of now, neither Portable nor his representatives have issued an official statement on the assault allegations or the reported evasion of arrest. The Ogun State Police Command has not publicly commented on the matter.
