Ryan Alebiosu will continue with the Super Eagles squad despite sustaining an injury that initially cast doubt over his availability for the remainder of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 22-year-old Blackburn Rovers defender picked up the injury during Nigeria’s final group-stage match against Uganda’s Cranes, a game in which he played the full 90 minutes. Following the match, Alebiosu underwent a medical scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of the issue.

Reports indicate that the right-back is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks, rather than the month initially feared, according to Blackburn Xtra. Depending on Nigeria’s progression in Morocco, Alebiosu could still feature in upcoming matches.

Nigeria, coached by Eric Chelle, will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 next Monday, with Alebiosu’s availability remaining a key consideration for the team’s defensive line-up.

The young defender’s presence will be vital as the Super Eagles aim to advance deeper into the tournament, where squad depth and fitness could play a decisive role in their campaign.
