Amy Rees, of Nantymoel, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing 12 counts of fraud involving a total of over £2,800. The offences reportedly occurred between September 2023 and June 2024, with the largest amount taken from a single victim being £623.
During the hearing, Rees confirmed her name, age, and address before pleading guilty to all 12 counts. Her lawyer described her as previously having a “clean character.” The court ordered a pre-sentence report before her sentencing, which is scheduled for 10 March. Rees was granted unconditional bail in the meantime.
The fraudulent activity coincided with Swift’s sold-out performance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in June 2024. Part of her 21-month-long Eras Tour spanning 50 cities, tickets for the concert were in extremely high demand, with some reselling for thousands of pounds. Ultimately, 67,000 fans attended the Cardiff show.
Rees’s case is part of a recurring pattern of ticket fraud targeting Swift’s fans. In 2015, a woman in Edmonton faced charges for selling fake Swift tickets, and in 2024, a Toronto woman allegedly defrauded dozens of fans of nearly $70,000 through a similar scheme.
The incidents underscore ongoing challenges in the concert ticketing industry, particularly for high-profile tours where demand far outstrips supply.
