Nigerian gospel artiste Busola Oke has clarified that she never contemplated taking her own life, dismissing widespread claims that her recent emotional live video suggested suicidal intentions.

Speaking during an appearance on the Talk To B Podcast, Oke explained that her livestream was borne out of frustration and emotional exhaustion rather than thoughts of self-harm.

Addressing the controversy, the singer said her words were misinterpreted.

“No, I never said I was going to commit suicide. So, I think it was a misconception, a misinterpretation,” she stated.

Oke recounted feeling isolated, overwhelmed and drained at the time of the broadcast, which prompted her to go live on social media in search of reassurance and connection.

“I was really frustrated… I was feeling very lonely, as if I had nobody around me. I was just feeling exhausted. So, I just went live,” she explained.

According to her, she simply asked whether there were people who cared about her and encouraged friends and followers to reach out as a show of support. She said many responded positively, sharing the video and offering words of encouragement.

The gospel singer added that she never intended to publicly expose her personal struggles, noting that she is naturally private and has endured challenges quietly since 2020.

“I’ve always been someone who doesn’t like to expose herself. I’ve been going through so much since 2020. And I’ve kept quiet for so long because I don’t like people treating me as a pity party,” she said.

Oke emphasised that her reluctance to share her struggles stems from a desire to avoid being seen as an object of charity or sympathy, preferring instead to maintain normal relationships without special treatment.

Her clarification comes amid growing conversations online about mental health awareness and the risks of misinterpreting emotional expressions shared on social media.
