A message of faith and composure followed the outcome of the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Grammy Awards, held Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido missed out on the prize.

The award went to South African singer Tyla for her track Push 2 Start, edging out a competitive field that included Burna Boy (Love), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat), Davido (With You featuring Omah Lay), and Eddy Kenzo alongside Mehran Matin (Hope & Love). The win marked Tyla’s second Grammy, following her 2024 victory with Water.

Shortly after the ceremony, Davido took to Instagram to reflect on the moment, sharing photos with his wife, Chioma, from the awards night. In a brief post, the five-time Grammy nominee wrote, “Oluwa Dey my side,” accompanied by prayer and music emojis, signaling gratitude despite the loss.

Hours later, he shared another post offering a more personal reflection, recounting a conversation with his wife after the announcement. “I said baby listen we lost again let’s not go! She said ‘Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat’ we outside,” he wrote, striking a tone of resilience and optimism.

Chioma also reacted on social media, praising the singer and expressing her support. “You already know that you’re the perfect one,” she wrote while sharing photos from the event.

The nomination came on the strength of With You, a track from Davido’s fifth studio album, 5IVE, released in April 2025. The song, which has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, has grown into one of the album’s standout records—despite almost being left off the final tracklist.

Speaking previously about the song, Davido revealed that it was not initially considered a priority during production. He recalled that With You was not among the top choices at the time, but later proved its impact during live performances, where audience reactions affirmed its significance.

The singer also shared that news of the Grammy nomination reached him unexpectedly while he was in Dubai, just days before his birthday, describing the moment as a surprise he received with gratitude.

Although Nigeria did not secure a win at the 2026 Grammy Awards, Davido says his focus has shifted forward. The artiste is preparing for an extensive tour and new music releases, alongside a major international appearance at Coachella 2026. He is billed as the only Nigerian act on the festival lineup, set to perform on April 11 and April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.
