Preparations are underway for the third edition of Egbaliganza, with organizers announcing that at least 50 countries will participate in honoring Abeokuta legend Lisabi and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo. The festival, scheduled for March 28, 2026, promises to position Abeokuta as a major hub of cultural celebration and international exchange.

Dr. Lai Labode, speaking during the unveiling of the festival program, highlighted the scale and significance of the event. “The Egba people have always known the weight of what they carry, in their history, craftsmanship, language, and identity. Egbaliganza 2026 is the moment that weight becomes a platform. Fifty nations will stand on that platform, and Abeokuta will not just be a city on a map. It will be the cultural capital of a continent finding its voice,” he said.

The program for Egbaliganza 2026 features a variety of cultural and creative initiatives, including:

  • Parade of Nations – Delegations from over 50 countries will present their distinct cultural identities alongside the Egba people, accompanied by a formal charter signing establishing long-term cultural, tourism, and creative enterprise commitments.
  • Walk of Heroes and Walk of Kings – Honoring legacy and leadership within Egba society and participating cultures.
  • Egba Fashion Club Runways and Hackathons – Showcasing indigenous textiles like Àdìrẹ and Aso-Oke while integrating tradition with modern enterprise and technology.
  • Unity Drum Unveiling – The Alake-Egbaliganza Drum, crafted by a son of Egbaland, symbolizing cultural unity.
  • Cultural Exhibitions – Including the “Oja Egbaliganza” showcasing historic Egba garments and artifacts, some dating 3,000–4,000 years old, complemented by performances from an 80-member orchestral band.
  • Gala Night: Flame of a Continent – A curated evening of performances, ceremonial presentations, storytelling, and the formal Lisabi Day celebration marking the 39th Lisabi Festival.

Labode also confirmed that the Lisabi Festival has now received official recognition from the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, reinforcing its national status and opening avenues for cultural tourism and institutional support across Ogun State.

The 2026 festival theme will focus on culture as a driver of economic development at grassroots, national, and continental levels.

Also in attendance at the program announcement were Mrs. Lai Labode and Emmanuella Ropo, as the team outlined plans for what is expected to be a landmark cultural moment in Nigeria’s calendar.
