The world number two prevailed 7–6 (8–6), 7–6 (7–4) in a high-quality final at Indian Wells Open in California, sealing victory in just under two hours under intense desert heat. The 24-year-old Italian did not face a single break point throughout the match and dropped only four points behind his first serve, underlining a dominant serving display.
Sinner’s victory secured his first title of the year and the 25th of his career. Remarkably, he claimed the trophy without dropping a set across the tournament.
The triumph also completes an extraordinary collection of hard-court achievements. Sinner has now won both hard-court Grand Slam titles — the Australian Open in 2024 and 2025 and the US Open in 2024 — along with all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. His Masters victories now include titles in Miami, Toronto, Cincinnati, Shanghai, Paris and Indian Wells, in addition to the season-ending ATP Finals.
Only two other players in the Open Era — Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer — have completed the same sweep of the major hard-court prizes. American legend Andre Agassi won the five hard-court Masters events available during his career, along with both majors and the ATP Finals.
The latest success also continues Sinner’s dominance in his rivalry with Medvedev. The Italian has now won nine of their past ten meetings, extending his strong recent record over the former world number one.
Despite the defeat, Medvedev’s run to the final ensures he will return to the top 10 when the new rankings are released on Monday. The Russian had faced travel complications before the tournament, having initially been stranded in Dubai due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Once in the United States, however, Medvedev showed flashes of his best form, notably defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final.Sunday’s final proved tightly contested despite the straight-sets scoreline. Sinner won 43 of 47 points behind his first serve, struck 10 aces and captured 60 percent of points on his second serve. Medvedev saved both break points he faced and came close to forcing a deciding set after racing to a 4–0 lead in the second-set tie-break.
Sinner responded emphatically, reeling off seven consecutive points to seal the match and secure back-to-back ATP Masters 1000 titles without dropping a set.
Elsewhere, Djokovic has withdrawn from the upcoming Miami Open due to injury. The Serbian, a six-time champion at the event, confirmed that a right shoulder problem would prevent him from competing at the hard-court tournament, which begins Monday. Djokovic finished runner-up at the event last year to Jakub Mensik.
