The ceremony, held on April 4, 2026, also featured the rollout of Gateway Air, alongside the unveiling of new aircraft, electric motorcycles, security vehicles and agricultural tractors—an indication of broader investments across multiple sectors.
Governor Dapo Abiodun said the projects reflect a deliberate strategy pursued over the past seven years to address infrastructure gaps and position the state to benefit from its proximity to Lagos.
According to him, the administration has prioritised mobility, enterprise support and job creation through large-scale infrastructure expansion. This includes the construction of more than 1,600 kilometres of roads, spanning major routes such as the Epe–Ijebu Ode Expressway, Sango–Abeokuta Expressway and the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode Remo–Sapade corridor.
The newly commissioned airport is expected to reshape the movement of goods and passengers within Ogun and the wider Southwest region. Analysts say it could reduce dependence on Lagos for international travel and cargo handling, while offering manufacturers in industrial hubs like Ota, Agbara and Sagamu a more efficient export route. Lower logistics costs and shorter turnaround times are among the anticipated benefits.
Industry observers also note that the development may ease pressure on Lagos’ busy aviation system and strengthen Ogun’s position in attracting regional trade and investment.
Commending the state’s efforts, President Tinubu praised the administration’s use of federal allocations, noting its impact on development outcomes and quality of life.
Also speaking at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded the project, describing it as a visible demonstration of effective public spending.
The high-profile commissioning attracted political leaders and business stakeholders, underscoring growing interest in Ogun State’s economic trajectory and infrastructure-led growth strategy.
