In a post on X on Monday, Ojo revealed that the sequel grossed an impressive ₦104.8 million in its opening weekend, breaking multiple records for Nollywood releases.
“Thank you, everyone, for the love you showed us. TROA opens with ₦104.8M, breaking multiple records in just one weekend. Highest grossing Easter weekend performance, biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. This was only possible because of you,” she wrote.
The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, confirmed the milestone on Instagram, calling the debut “a strong statement at the box office.”
“₦104.8M in its opening weekend, biggest Easter opening, and the highest-grossing film of the weekend,” the distributor noted. FilmOne added that the numbers reflect the deep connection the story has established with audiences across West Africa.
“But beyond the numbers, this is what it looks like when a story connects… when people see themselves on screen and show up for it. West Africa, you didn’t just watch, you showed up… you filled the cinemas,” the post said.
Return of Arinzo is a sequel to the 2013 Yoruba blockbuster Arinzo, which explored themes of crime and personal transformation. The original film was directed by Abiodun Olanrewaju and Muhydeen S. Ayinde, featuring a mix of Nollywood and Ghallywood actors.
The new release has also sparked social media buzz beyond its commercial success. A viral moment at its Lagos premiere involved actors Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, in which Abraham attempted to greet Akindele, who appeared not to respond, leading to widespread online reactions.
