Twenty-three computer-based test (CBT) centres across Nigeria have been delisted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) following technical failures that disrupted the 2026 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The action follows widespread reports of glitches during the March 27 mock examination, where many candidates were left stranded as the test failed to commence hours after their arrival at designated centres. The disruptions sparked public outrage and backlash, particularly on social media, with candidates and parents expressing concern over the conduct of the exercise.

JAMB had earlier, on March 31, released the mock UTME results and announced the delisting of 20 CBT centres affected by the technical issues. However, the number has now been reviewed upward to 23 centres across 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement issued on Friday, JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said the affected centres were sanctioned for “technical inefficiencies” uncovered during the board’s post-examination assessment.

He also disclosed that 88 other CBT centres received warnings over minor technical shortcomings, while one centre has been blacklisted from participating in any future JAMB examinations.

Benjamin explained that the mock UTME is designed not only to help candidates become familiar with the CBT environment but also to serve as a critical evaluation tool for the board.

“It provides an opportunity to identify centres that fall short of the required operational and technical standards,” he said.

According to him, JAMB’s internal review mechanisms flagged several centres for failing to meet the expected benchmarks after the mock examination.

“Consequently, the board has taken decisive steps, in line with its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examination processes, to ensure that only centres that are fully prepared and compliant participate in the main UTME exercise,” he added.
