Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has dismissed circulating claims that she was responsible for the arrest of a Twitter user who allegedly made derogatory remarks about her following the spread of an AI-generated image online.
The controversy began after a digitally altered image depicting the actress surfaced on social media, sparking debate and criticism, with some users wrongly alleging that she had undergone skin bleaching. The image, which quickly went viral, also attracted mocking comments from several users, including one identified as “ScoobyDoo,” who later claimed he was arrested and detained at Area F Police Station in Ikeja over his posts.
However, Lawal has strongly refuted any involvement in the alleged arrest, insisting that she did not instruct or facilitate such action against any social media user.
In a firm response shared online, the actress described the claims as entirely false and maintained that she would not resort to what she termed oppressive measures over what she characterised as a “frivolous” and AI-generated joke image.
She emphasised that she does not engage in silencing critics through legal intimidation, adding that she considers the narrative being circulated to be another instance of persistent misinformation targeted at her.
Expressing frustration over recurring online stories about her, Lawal stated that she is weary of what she described as constant falsehoods and unnecessary public attention surrounding her name. She urged social media users to verify claims before amplifying them, warning against the spread of unverified rumours.
The actress also criticised the culture of online bullying and misinformation, noting that digital platforms continue to blur the line between humour, defamation, and harmful speculation.
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns around the misuse of artificial intelligence-generated content and its potential to fuel misrepresentation and online harassment, particularly among public figures.
