A fresh debate has emerged on social media after a Nollywood actor weighed in on expectations within romantic relationships and marriage, urging men to reconsider staying in unions where they feel disrespected.
Yul Edochie, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), argued that respect for men within marriage is essential and should never be compromised. His message, delivered in a strongly worded tone, encouraged men to reject what he described as endurance of mistreatment under the guise of commitment.
According to him, some men remain in relationships or marriages despite experiencing what he considers persistent disregard from their partners. He insisted that such situations should not be tolerated, adding that walking away may be a healthier option than staying in an unbalanced relationship.
In his words, he stated: “Men stop tolerating nonsense… If your partner doesn’t respect you, dump her and find someone who does.”
The post quickly drew attention online, generating mixed reactions from users who debated the appropriateness of his stance. While some agreed with his emphasis on mutual respect in relationships, others criticized the framing of his advice, arguing that relationship challenges require communication and understanding rather than immediate separation.
The actor maintained that respect remains a core foundation for any lasting partnership, stressing that men should prioritize their emotional wellbeing when faced with repeated disregard.
