African representation in global advertising continues to expand as Emeka Obia, Regional Head of Strategy at Publicis West and Central Africa, has been appointed to the Creative Strategy Shortlisting Jury for the 2026 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

The festival, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious gatherings in advertising, marketing, and communications, is scheduled to hold from June 22 to 26, 2026, in Cannes, France, bringing together top global minds to evaluate and celebrate creative excellence.

Obia’s appointment places him among international jurors responsible for assessing breakthrough ideas in brand strategy and creative communication, further strengthening Africa’s visibility in global industry decision-making.

Driving Strategy Across West and Central Africa

In his role at Publicis Groupe West and Central Africa, Obia leads strategic development for brands operating across highly competitive markets. His work focuses on converting complex business challenges into clear, culturally relevant strategies that deliver measurable growth.

Over the years, he has worked across sectors including FMCG, telecommunications, finance, entertainment, and healthcare, supporting major brands such as Nestlé, MTN, VISA, PepsiCo, Prime Video, Spotify, Heineken, and Nivea.

He is widely recognised within industry circles for building brand platforms that blend cultural insight with commercial performance, particularly in African markets where consumer behaviour is rapidly evolving.

In 2025, his contributions to the industry were formally acknowledged when he was named Africa’s Adman of the Year, further cementing his position as one of the continent’s leading strategic voices.

Commitment to Mentorship and Industry Growth

Beyond agency leadership, Obia is actively involved in developing the next generation of creative professionals. He serves as faculty at the Executive Programme in Advertising at Pan-Atlantic University and mentors emerging talent through institutions such as the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the African Leadership University. He also sits on the Advisory Board of the African Leadership Academy’s Student Enterprise Program.

“African strategic thinking is gaining global recognition”

Industry observers say his selection reflects a broader shift in how African creativity and strategy are perceived globally, particularly in spaces like Cannes Lions where cultural intelligence and consumer insight are increasingly valued alongside traditional creative execution.

His appointment is seen as part of a growing wave of African professionals shaping global conversations around brand growth, storytelling, and creative effectiveness.
