Leicester City have begun a sweeping restructuring of their squad following relegation to League One, confirming that several first-team players will leave the club this summer, including loan midfielder Joe Aribo, whose short-term spell has now officially come to an end.

The announcement was contained in the club’s retained and released list published on Sunday, which detailed widespread changes across both the senior squad and academy setup as the Foxes prepare for life in the third tier.

According to the club, “a total of 10 men’s first-team players will depart at the end of their contracts this summer,” alongside multiple loan players returning to their parent clubs.

Joe Aribo Returns to Southampton After Loan Spell

Among those leaving is Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo, who joined Leicester City on loan from Southampton but will now return to his parent club after the expiration of his temporary deal.

Leicester confirmed that several loan players will depart at the end of their stints, stating:
“In addition to those players, the loan spells of Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey, Joe Aribo, Dujuan Richards and Divine Mukuka will all end and see the players return to their parent clubs.”

Aribo’s future had already been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that a permanent move did not materialise after discussions stalled. Sources also indicated that the midfielder was hesitant about continuing in England’s third tier following Leicester’s relegation.

His contract at Southampton is understood to run until June 2026.

Senior Exits Mark End of an Era

Beyond loan departures, Leicester also confirmed the exit of several experienced figures as part of the broader squad overhaul.

Club captain Ricardo Pereira leaves after eight years at the King Power Stadium, during which he made more than 200 appearances and became a key figure in the dressing room.

Other senior names departing include Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew, and Jamaal Lascelles, alongside academy graduate Wanya Marçal, as the club moves to refresh its squad ahead of the new campaign.

The retained list signals one of the most significant clear-outs in recent years, reflecting the scale of change required after relegation.

Academy Restructuring and Future Planning

In addition to senior departures, Leicester confirmed changes within their youth ranks, noting that extension options have been activated for five academy players, while contract offers have been extended to several emerging talents.

The club’s statement suggests a dual focus on immediate squad rebuilding and long-term development as they attempt to stabilise and mount a return to higher competition.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Asmir Begović remains in discussions over a possible extension, with his future yet to be fully decided as part of ongoing squad evaluations.

Rebuild Begins in Earnest at the King Power

With a mix of senior exits, loan departures, and youth promotions, Leicester City’s summer restructuring underscores the scale of transition underway following relegation. The club now faces the task of rebuilding a competitive squad capable of navigating the demands of League One football while balancing financial and developmental priorities.
